OCT. 29, 2008
Lee’s Summit Community Church recently marked its 20th anniversary with an outdoor celebration at its campus at 1440 S.W. Jefferson.
The church began as a Bible study in a Lee’s Summit living room in the mid-1980s. In 1988, members of that Bible study and others who were interested in forming a church phoned 20,000 people and invited them to the launch of a new church on Oct. 16. About 200 people showed up for opening day at a local elementary school.
Twenty years later, the church is still committed to its core values of sharing God’s love and serving the greater Lee’s Summit community and the world.
Highlights of the last 20 years include:
“We are thankful that God has given us 20 years in this community and pray that the best is yet to come,” said Lead Pastor Doug Brown, who preached the first message on opening day 20 years ago.
