CHURCH DONATES TRUCKLOAD OF CLOTHES, TOYS TO NAVAJO NATION

DECEMBER 24, 2004

Lee's Summit Community Church members filled a semi truck full of clothes and toys, then helped deliver and distribute them to the Navajo Nation community near Gallup, N.M. on Dec. 11.

Team members also helped serve about 2,500 meals as part of an interdenominational effort that involved volunteers and contributions from several churches.

In addition, a well-maintained van that was donated to the church was given to a Native American pastor and his family.

“This generous gift really blew him away,” said Associate Pastor Dan Erickson. “It was totally unexpected and was greatly appreciated by the pastor, his wife and eight children.”

Team members served residents of the Navajo Nation community and surrounding area near the Arizona/New Mexico border. Residents have many physical and economic needs, with numerous neighborhoods lacking basic infrastructure such as running water.

“It was a great example of churches coming together to help the poor,” Erickson said.
