THREE CHURCHES PARTNERS TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD, TOYS TO NAVAJO

JANUARY 3, 2007

The combined efforts of several Lee’s Summit churches resulted in Christmas dinner for about 2,000 Navajo Native Americans and the delivery of hundreds of toys in early December.

Lee’s Summit Community Church member Bobby Spaw led the trip to Gallup, N.M., and was accompanied by volunteers from his church, plus Deerbrook Covenant Church, Abundant Life Baptist Church and two team members from St. Joseph.

Volunteers helped collect, organize and distribute toys, many of which were donated by Lee’s Summit households. They also helped organize and serve the massive Christmas dinner.

“We had plenty of toys,” Spaw said. “Every kid walked away with toys. The kids were just totally excited.”

Lee’s Summit Community Church has led several trips to the reservation in the last few years. Spaw said future service projects include maintenance work at a Navajo church near Pinion, Ariz.
