CHURCH DONATES NEARLY 800 GIFT BOXES TO NEEDY CHILDREN

DECEMBER 22, 2003

Lee’s Summit Community Church volunteers purchased and packaged 792 Christmas gifts for needy children throughout the world.

The church participated in Operation Christmas Child, which delivers gifts to impoverished children. The gifts also contain literature explaining to children the true, spiritual meaning of Christmas surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ.

Senior Pastor Doug Brown challenged the congregation to be generous and consider children throughout the world.

“We’re heartened by the response of the church to consider others,” said Brown. “It’s so easy to get caught up in the rush of the Christmas season. Christmas reminds us of the gift of God’s Son and God’s generosity toward us. This motivates us to be generous to others not only at Christmas, but year round.”

Volunteers in the church designated each shoe-box-sized package for a boy or a girl and filled them with toys and practical items such as toothbrushes and school supplies. Volunteers also had to enclose funds to ship the packages, many of which are headed to remote destinations such as Africa or Asia.

More information about Operation Christmas Child is available at www.samaritanspurse.org. Individuals and churches shipped more than 6 million packages to children in 95 countries in 2002.
