CHURCH EXPANDS HURRICANE
RELIEF EFFORTS

SEPT. 22, 2005

Lee's Summit Community Church is donating funds and sending two teams to Laurel, Miss., to help with cleanup efforts.

So far, church members have donated more than $25,000 to the recovery. The funds will be divided between relief agency Samaritan's Purse and the assistance efforts of Great Commission Churches.

A team of adults will head to Laurel, Miss., Oct. 8-15 to help cleanup storm damage. Afterward, a team of students will take advantage of a shortened school week to serve in Laurel from Oct. 27-30. Both trips are through a partnership with West Laurel Baptist Church.

"This is a practical way to demonstrate God's love to the people of Mississippi and the Gulf region," says Nick Kendall, executive pastor of Lee's Summit Community Church.

In addition, the church is encouraging members to contribute funds, food and quality furniture to Lee's Summit Social Services' hurricane relief efforts. The church is also assisting a family relocated to the area through Children's Mercy Hospital.
