Question
I'm having a hard time understanding a certain passage. Specifically, Romans 8:29-30 is tricky! While it seems to me that predestination is biblical, I have a hard time wrapping my head around it. It begs the question to me of what exactly the point of evangelism is and how exactly free will comes into play if predestination of certain individuals to be Christian is true. Do you think these Scriptures imply that some people are predestined by God to fulfill certain purposes but everyone else still has the choice to believe in Mim?
Answer
You hit on a question that has been around throughout Christian history. I find it to be a fascinating study and yet the practical application in how we will live our life is vital. So, don't let this become a mental exercise but let it stimulate you to live a holy life before the Lord and help others find Him and grow up in Him as well. I have written a pretty extensive paper on this which is available here. I would be interested to hear what you think and if it answers your questions.
