Lee’s Summit Community Church sponsors “Great Escape” couples getaway

Valentine’s weekend event is an affordable Ozark retreat

Ask almost any married couple how they spend their time, and they would likely answer “work, pay bills and take care of the house and kids.” There’s no fun in that, which marriage experts Mike and Becky Qualls take as a personal challenge.
At a weekend retreat sponsored by Lee’s Summit Community Church, 1440 S.W. Jefferson, the Qualls will help couples rediscover the value of friendship in marriage.
“Friendship should be fun, not complicated,” said Mike, “and it’s an aspect of marriage that can be addressed in a weekend. So instead of giving couples 20 things to work on their marriage, Becky and I give them one  – friendship – and then walk them through how to do it successfully.”
The “The Great Escape Couples Getaway”  is during Valentine’s weekend at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Mo., Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 13-14. With just four sessions throughout the weekend, the event offers generous leisure time for couples to talk, relax, shop or enjoy area attractions. Sessions convey the benefits of being married to one’s best friend, how to set aside and protect time to enjoy each other and how to treat each other as friends.
“Our agenda is to teach, equip and encourage couples to do things that are good for the heart of their marriage,” said Mike Qualls.
The Qualls, married since 1986, live in Lee’s Summit with two teenage sons. They have more than 30 years of combined counseling experience. Mike is a licensed clinical social worker, Becky holds a degree in social welfare and their counseling focus since 2000 has been on marriage.
The registration cost is $59 per couple. Lodging at the Tan-Tar-A resort in Osage Beach, Mo., is available at the Great Escape rate of just $78 per night and can be reserved directly by calling 800.TAN.TAR.A.
